PR&P Week Three: Boys Week

This handsome little man turned three last week! He is not a baby anymore, he is a big boy (he keeps reminding me of that every time I call him my baby lol)
So I was very excited when week three of Project Run and Play was Boy Week. I decided to make Jack an outfit that he could wear to his Construction themed birthday party this weekend. I used the Explorer vest pattern from Oliver and S Little Things to Sew. I found this great construction truck fabric on Fabric.com and thought it would be perfect for the vest. The name of the fabric is Cone Zone Trucks by Caleb Gray for Robert Kaufman. I used the truck fabric for the pockets on the explorer vest and also on the inside front pockets of Jack's jeans and as an applique on the front of his tee shirt. I used a grey broadcloth for the exterior fabric that I purchased from the remnant bin at Joann and yellow Kona cotton for the lining fabric and store bought grey bias binding for the arm holes.
For the jeans, I used Dana's flat front kid pants tutorial and cut up an old pair of my husband's jeans for the material. I added front pockets and back pockets to the pants. For the back pockets, I cut the original back pockets off and scaled them down to size.
For the long sleeve tee, I used Rae's Flash Back Skinny Tee pattern and a white XL tee shirt that I bought at Old Navy in a two pack for $3.99! I was so excited when I found these shirts because it was cheaper than buying yardage and I have enough left over to make some leggings for Erin. Score!
I really liked Rae's pattern. It was very easy to follow and I love how the shirt came out. I used the size four pattern for Jack's shirt just to make it a little less fitted. I had to redo the neckline because I cut the ribbing to long but other than that it was really easy to sew up. I added a cut out of the truck fabric to the front using some Steam a Seam and then secured it with a zig zag stitch.
I  am really happy with how the outfit came out and best of all Jack is thrilled! He kept asking me while I was sewing "Is this for me? Really?" Yes Jack, just for you! Happy Birthday buddy!!!
